Celtic HSBK Racing has signed former World Superbike rider and current Ducati Corse test rider Lorenzo Zanetti to compete aboard the team’s number 87 Ducati Panigale V4 R in HONOS Superbike at the Ridge Motorsports Park on August 28-30 for round five of the 2020 MotoAmerica Championship.
Zanetti will replace team rider PJ Jacobsen, who is still recovering from the injuries he sustained in a crash at round two of the MotoAmerica Championship at Road America 2. Jake Lewis rode Jacobsen’s bike in HONOS Superbike at round three in Pittsburgh, and Zanetti will race instead of Lewis at the Ridge.
According to HSBK Racing’s Bobby Shek, “We actually planned to have Zanetti race our bike at Pittsburgh (International Race Complex), but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we couldn’t get him into the U.S. in time, so we had Jake Lewis fill in at Pittsburgh. We appreciate Jake being able to race our bike, especially on such short notice. Zanetti is ready to go for the Ridge.”
Besides racing a Ducati in the Superbike World Championship, Zanetti, who is from Brescia, Italy, also competed in the World Supersport Championship, FIM Superstock 1000 Cup, as well as the 125cc World Championship.
In his home country of Italy, Zanetti raced in the Italian 125 GP Championship and the Italian Stock 600 Championship. He began his road racing career in 2003 when he competed in the Honda RS125 GP Trophy Championship, winning the title the following year.
