Fourteen-year-old Kayla Yaakov made her MotoAmerica debut last weekend at Ridge Motorsports Park in the SportbikeTrackGear.com Junior Cup class, and Colin Barton, owner of BARTCON Racing, the team Yaakov races for, sent word to us about how pleased he was with her first weekend racing with his team.
“I couldn’t be prouder of this young girl who started her MotoAmerica career this past weekend on board her BARTCON Racing/Coastal Kawasaki Ninja 400,” Barton said.
Unfortunately, Yaakov started her weekend with a crash in Friday morning practice, which left her with a slight shoulder injury, but she battled on regardless and qualified 13th, earning her a spot on the fifth row of the grid. In Saturday’s race one, Yaakov finished ninth, and then improved on that result with a sixth-place finish in Sunday’s race two.
Barton continued, “Especially considering that the races were run in blistering 100-degree air temperatures, I have to give a big thanks to all the BARTCON Racing/Kayla Yaakov fans who came by the paddock to wish her the best of luck. Also, big thanks to our sponsors who, without their support, we would not be able to make this season possible: Coastal Neurosurgery & Spine, JTS Surgical, Triple Strong Racing, Forma Boots USA, Orient Express, K-Tech Suspension, Blud Lubricants, Spears Racing, and Rage Grafix.”
The team is excited for the next MotoAmerica round next weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, and they hope to see all their West Coast friends, family, and fans there cheering on Kayla, as well as her teammates Dominic Doyle in Supersport and Ryne Snooks in Twins Cup.
Barton also wants to remind everyone that Yaakov is competing at Donington Park in England this weekend in the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup. Check out the schedule.
