Prior to round eight of the 2020 MotoAmerica Championship at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, we talked about the fact that MESA37 Racing’s Stefano Mesa and Hayden Schultz Racing’s Hayden Schultz were entered to compete at The Brickyard in Supersport aboard Kawasaki ZX-6R motorcycles. For Mesa and Schultz, they raced in Supersport in addition to their regular race classes, Stock 1000 and Twins Cup, respectively.
For the final round of the season this weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, there are a total of eight riders entered in the Supersport class who will be aboard Kawasaki’s 636cc middleweight machine. That’s eight out of a total of 30 riders entered to compete in Supersport, which represents about 27% of the field.
As we’ve already documented, Brandon Paasch has left the Celtic HSBK Racing team, for which he raced a Yamaha YZF-R6 all season long, and he will race a HONOS Kawasaki as a teammate with already-crowned 2020 Supersport Champion Richie Escalante.
Other notable riders entered in Supersport aboard Kawasaki’s include two-time Stock 1000 Champion and long-time Kawasaki rider Andrew Lee, who raced in the HONOS Superbike class at the previous two rounds, Barber Motorsports Park and Indy.
Also entered aboard a Kawasaki in Supersport at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is CV28 Racing’s Cory Ventura who is making his return to the MotoAmerica Series after racing a Yamaha part-time in the MotoAmerica Supersport class in 2019. Ventura finished as runner-up in the 2017 MotoAmerica KTM RC 390 Cup Championship and the 2018 Liqui Moly Junior Cup Championship.
