Defending Liqui Moly Junior Cup Champion Rocco Landers will compete in the opening round of the Red Bull Rookies Cup in the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg the weekend after this weekend’s MotoAmerica round at Pitt Race.
Landers missed the opening test of the Rookies Cup at the Red Bull Ring, August 3-4, but will be able to contest the series opener August 15-16.
Meanwhile, Landers had to battle the oppressive heat and humidity at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta last weekend as well as a bad case of food poisoning. Landers, who is racing this season in both Junior Cup and Twins Cup, competed in three races at Road Atlanta.
Landers managed to win both Liqui Moly Junior Cup races at Road Atlanta and took over the championship points lead from Dominic Doyle in the process. In Twins Cup, Landers finished third to winner Kaleb De Keyrel and runner-up Hayden Schultz after an off-track excursion in the final corner cost him second place. He trails De Keyrel by 18 points in the Twins Cup points chase.
With his food poisoning behind him, Landers will be good to go at PittRace and will then head to Europe immediately following the races to take part in his Red Bull Rookies Cup debut.
When asked if it’s difficult to jump back and forth between his Kawasaki Ninja 400 in the Liqui Moly Junior Cup races to his Suzuki SV650 in the Twins Cup, Landers said: “It’s not so hard to run the Junior Cup and the Twins Cup because the bikes are so similar. It’s really just mostly the difference in power but it’s even that isn’t much. They are both great bikes and I enjoy racing both of them about the same.”
Beginning next weekend, Landers will add a third different motorcycle to the mix with the Red Bull Rookies Cup using KTM RC 250 R motorcycles.
