Joe Roberts will start tomorrow’s Moto2 Grand Prix in Qatar from eighth on the grid.

Italtrans Racing’s Joe Roberts and American Racing Team’s Cameron Beaubier will start tomorrow’s Tissot Grand Prix of Doha from rows three and five, respectively, with the two Californians ending up eighth and 14th in final qualifying at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar.

For the second straight week, Sam Lowes will start the Moto2 GP race from pole position, the Brit lapping at 1:59.055 on his Elf Marc VDS Racing Team Kalex. He will be joined on the front row by Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Remy Gardner and SKY Racing Team VR46’s Marco Bezzecchi.

After his best lap of 1:59.727, Roberts will start the second round of the championship from the third row after doing his best lap on sixth of seven laps.

“I’m not completely satisfied with today’s qualifying: we have to find a better setup with the wind,” Roberts said in a team release. “Anyway, I’m feeling really positive and confident for tomorrow. We can battle for a good position. The pace was strong in free practice so we are ready to go racing.”

Cameron Beaubier improved from 22nd in last week’s qualifying to 14th for round two.

Beaubier, meanwhile, turned in a 2:00.040 in his first Q2 session of his Moto2 career, the five-time MotoAmerica Superbike Champion improving his qualifying position eight spots from last week’s debut. Beaubier ended up 14th and will start the GP from the fifth row. Beaubier’s best was .985 of a second off Lowe’s pole time.
