The World Superbike Championship finally got underway today with the two practice sessions at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain and the majority of the field were faster in the morning sessions that featured cooler track temperatures. One of those was Garrett Gerloff, the GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team rider ending up third overall on the day.
Gerloff was third fastest in the morning session with his 1:50.442 and that was good enough for third overall at the end of the day behind Pata Yamaha’s Toprak Razgatlioglu, the Turkish rider also setting his best lap, a 1:49.952, in FP1. Team GoEleven’s Chaz Davies was second fastest, .308 of a second behind Razgatlioglu.
The Kawasakis of Alex Lowes and World Champion Jonathan Rea were next, with Rea the first of the top men to improve his lap times in the afternoon FP2 session.
