Two-time MotoAmerica Supersport Champion Garrett Gerloff will have to wait for another day to make his MotoGP debut as Valentino Rossi passed his second COVID-19 test and will be back on his Monster Energy Yamaha tomorrow in Valencia, Spain. Although Gerloff won’t get the chance to race on Sunday, he made sure the MotoGP paddock knows who he is after two impressive sessions on Rossi’s M1 on Friday.
Gerloff, who finished 11th in the 2020 World Superbike Championship in his debut season on his GRT Yamaha YZF-R1, was impressive on Friday in Spain. The Texan was 16th fastest in the wet FP 1 session and 19th on slicks in the drier FP2 session – and only 1.599 seconds off Friday’s fastest MotoGP rider Jack Miller.
Gerloff had never ridden on the Valencia circuit before today and, of course, had never thrown a leg over a MotoGP Yamaha M1.
