Four-time MotoAmerica Superbike Champion Cameron Beaubier celebrated his 100th AMA Superbike race on Sunday at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex by doing what he’d done 44 times previously. He won.
Beaubier moved up to the AMA Superbike Championship in 2014, a season after he won the Daytona Sportbike Championship with an almost perfect 12 of 13 race wins. Ironically, the 27-year-old Californian lost his only race that season to his now Monster Energy Attack Performance Yamaha teammate Jake Gagne at Road America.
It was March 14, 2014 when Beaubier made his Superbike debut at Daytona International Speedway, the factory Yamaha rider finishing third in his debut. In just his second Superbike race a day later, Beaubier won.
It was the first of his thus-far 45 Superbike victories.
“I cannot believe it’s been 100 Superbike races,” Beaubier said on Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh. “I’m 27. It doesn’t sound that old, but I guess it’s kind of old racing-wise. It’s not like Josh Hayes (laughs). But it’s incredible. It’s pretty cool too that it’s been with Yamaha the entire time. It’s just crazy to look back at eight years ago and signing a contract, and nine years ago signing a contract with Yamaha to race 600s, and just everything that’s happened since then. It’s pretty nuts to look back at it to where I am now. It’s been an amazing ride, for sure.”
Amazing are Beaubier’s results since moving to the Superbike class. Of his 100 starts, he’s won 45 times and has stood on the podium an additional 43 times in the races that he didn’t win.
The math on this one is easy: Beaubier has finished on the podium in 88 percent of his starts.
Beaubier has missed only three races in his Superbike career, the three after he suffered a crash in race one at Pittsburgh International Race Complex in 2017 that required surgery and forced him out of the final three races of the season.
With his 45 victories, Beaubier is third on the all-time AMA Superbike win list behind Mat Mladin (82 wins) and Josh Hayes (61 wins).
Beaubier will attempt to continue his march up that all-time AMA Superbike win list when he lines up again in a few weeks at the Ridge Motorsports Park, August 28-30. He has started this season in the best form of his career, winning seven of the eight races. One more victory and he will match his high-water mark of eight wins in a season, which he has accomplished three times in his career.
