Andrew Lee, a former two-time champion in MotoAmerica’s Stock 1000 class, has been selected by Altus Motorsports to race the team’s Suzuki GSX-R1000R motorcycle in next weekend’s two Steel Commander Stock 1000 races at the Circuit of The Americas. The announcement was made by George Nassaney, team owner of Altus Motorsports.
With a total of 20 podiums and 11 race wins in MotoAmerica Stock 1000 competition, Lee is a highly experienced rider aboard literbikes. He has also previously competed in the Suzuka Eight Hours endurance race, and last year, he raced a Suzuki GSX-R1000R in several MotoAmerica Stock 1000 races as a fill-in rider for the injured Michael Gilbert, notching three podiums including one runner-up result.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to partner with George, (Nassaney’s wife and business partner) Janette, and the Altus Motorsports team,” Lee said. “The program they’ve put together has garnered great results in the past few seasons, and I’m looking forward to joining them at COTA. The GSX-R platform they’ve built is proven. I look forward to continuing the momentum the team has been building on!”
George Nassaney commented, “We are very excited to have a proven champ like Andrew on the 1000 for COTA. It’s the last event for the Stock 1000 class, and we are looking to finish strong.”
The 2023 Steel Commander Stock 1000 Championship wraps up next weekend at COTA with race one on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. CT and race two on Sunday at 12:45 p.m. CT
