After dipping her toe in this past season’s FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship (WorldWCR) when she was a wildcard entry in the final round, held at Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto in October, former Royal Enfield Build. Train. Race. and MotoAmerica Twins Cup Championship competitor Sonya Lloyd has signed a deal with Team Trasimeno to race in all six rounds of the 2025 WorldWCR.
Lloyd networked with the other teams and riders during her WorldWCR wildcard weekend in Jerez and caught the attention of Italy’s Team Trasimeno.
“I am absolutely ecstatic for the opportunity to compete in the Women’s World Championship representing the USA in 2025 on Team Trasimeno and racing with my teammate Jessica Howden from South Africa,” Lloyd said. “Jessica and I have plans to do preseason training together in Spain this spring, as well as test with the team on some of the tracks where we will be racing in the Championship.
“WorldWCR has proven to be a fantastic series for learning and growth, as we saw with Mallory Dobbs consistently improving her position every round. It’s a great launching pad for women in the sport as we are now seeing with Ana Carrasco signing with Honda France to race in the FIM Supersport World Championship this coming year. I have some big goals for my racing career, and I’m looking forward to building on everything I have learned in MotoAmerica the past two years, as well as battling on the world stage with the best.”
WorldWCR is a spec racing series featuring women from all over the world competing aboard Yamaha YZF-R7 motorcycles. The Championship is held in conjunction with six of the FIM Superbike World Championship rounds, and each round features two races that make up the 12-race season.
