The stars of tomorrow took to the track on Friday in practice sessions for this weekend’s MotoAmerica Mission Mini Cup By Motul National Final. Riders turned laps on two different configurations at the Briggs & Stratton Motorplex, dealing with unseasonably cool and windy conditions. On Saturday, riders will race on one circuit at the Motorplex and then a different track layout on Sunday for the final races.
Among the top riders today was Mahdi Salem, who was fastest overall in the practice session on the first track layout. Salem turned a 55.185-second lap in the GP 190 class aboard his Ohvale. Also on the first configuration, Jase Dill clocked a 57.722 in the GP 160 class, Blake Sorrentino (1:06.316) topped the Stock 110 class on a Kawasaki. In Stock 50, it was Chase Jazikof (1:13.656) on a Honda and in Street GP, it was Cameron Jones (1:00.339), also on a Honda.
It was mostly the same riders topping the final session on Friday on the second track layout except for Gabriel Datis, who topped Stock 110, and Joshua Rodriguez, who led Street GP led on the second layout.
Salem, 13, from Lincoln Park, New Jersey, talked about his strong Friday practice.
“The tracks are both great,” he said. “It’s not super grippy, but I can work through it. I don’t think it was necessarily the cool temperatures. I’ve raced this track before and have had the same issue, but it’s fine. I just send it, even if it is a little slick.”
Racers will compete this weekend for AMA National Championships in six different classes – Stock 50, Stock 110, Stock 125, GP 160, GP 190, and Street GP.
You can tune in to the event on MotoAmerica Live+ with live streaming and video on-demand for Saturday’s and Sunday’s race action with commentary from MotoAmerica Superbike race winner Roger Hayden and current Mission King Of The Baggers star James Rispoli. MotoAmerica Live+ will begin streaming at 1 p.m. (Central Time) on both Saturday and Sunday and will conclude at 4:30 p.m. (Central Time) both days.
The battles for championships will consist of four races per class over the course of the weekend with two races on Saturday and two on Sunday. Each race will pay points, and the rider with the highest total points in each class will be awarded the number-one plates.
