Italtrans Racing’s Joe Roberts was the fastest of the Americans today in Moto2 qualifying for the Red Bull Grand Prix of Spain at the Jerez circuit, with the Californian set to start the race from the fifth row of the grid. American Racing’s Cameron Beaubier, meanwhile, had a rough day at the office on Saturday and will start tomorrow’s Grand Prix from the ninth row of the grid. His teammate Sean Dylan Kelly will line up on the row behind Beaubier after qualifying 29th.
Roberts made it directly through to Q2 where he posted a best time of 1:42.100 to slot him into 14th overall. Beaubier didn’t make it through to Q2 with his lap of 1:42.295 coming in Q1. Despite qualifying 25th, Beaubier is just .898 of a second from pole. Kelly, meanwhile, lapped at a best of 1:43.211 in Q1.
IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia’s Ai Ogura will start the Spanish GP from his first career pole position with his 1:41.289. Elf Marc VDS Racing teammates Tony Arbolino and Sam Lowes complete row one.
