As we’ve reported in the past, rider and team sanctions are levied by MotoAmerica for such things as exceeding the speed limit on pit lane, passing in a corner where a yellow flag is being waved, jumping the start, etc. And most of those sanctions include monetary fines. At Barber Motorsports Park, the fines totaled some $12,000, and the money is given to the Roadracing World Action Fund.
Last weekend at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, thousands of dollars of soft barriers were destroyed in a fiery crash at the WERA Cycle Jam. According to an article on Roadracing World, “the cost to replace the Airfence sections is estimated to be between $23,400 and $26,000, plus shipping.”
“The $12,000 in fines from the sanctions at Barber are going to help replace those soft barriers that were destroyed at Road Atlanta last weekend,” MotoAmerica Director of Operations Niccole Cox said.
The Roadracing World Action Fund is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that promotes motorcycle racing safety, and in particular, encourages and facilitates the use of soft air barriers at motorcycle racing events, including all MotoAmerica races.
