Both Joe Roberts and Cameron Beaubier have some work to do to make it through directly to Q1 on Saturday in the Grand Prix of Catalunya with the two Americans ending up 16th and 25th, respectively, on Friday in Spain.
Italtrans Racing’s Roberts improved his time in FP2 this afternoon, but his session was cut short by a crash that left him 16th overall on the day with his 1:44.509 – .822 off the best time of the day.
Beaubier, meanwhile, cut his best lap in FP1 – a 1:44.907 – and wasn’t able to improve that in FP2 on his American Racing Kalex. Beaubier, however, is just 1.2 seconds off the top spot on day one after having tested at the circuit a few weeks ago.
Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Raul Fernandez led the day with his 1:43.687 coming in FP2, but he was just .016 ahead of Augusto Fernandez and his Elf Marc VDS Racing Team Kalex. Third fastest on day one was Sam Lowes, the Brit and his Elf Marc VDS Racing mount .160 off the day’s best.
