Harley-Davidson Factory Racing’s Kyle Wyman and S&S/Indian Motorcycle’s Troy Herfoss both race American Big Twin motorcycles, but are the two riders actually twin sons from different hemispheres?
When Wyman looks in the mirror, does he see Herfoss’s face? And vice-versa, when Herfoss brushes his teeth in the morning, does he see Wyman in the mirror brushing his teeth? Who is this person? Herman Wyfoss?
OK, I will admit that’s a pretty big stretch. But, when you take a closer look at the riders’ 2024 Mission King Of The Baggers Championship seasons, they’ve been mirror-images of each other.
Let’s take a closer look:
Out of the 16 Mission King Of The Baggers races so far this season, Wyman and Herfoss have been the top-two finishers in 10 of those races. Herfoss has finished as runner-up to Wyman in five races and, conversely, Wyman has finished as runner-up to Herfoss in five races. All told, Wyman has won six races while Herfoss has also won six.
Wyman swept both races at Daytona International Speedway.
Herfoss swept both races at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.
Wyman and Herfoss split the wins at three rounds this season: COTA I, Road America, and Mid-Ohio. And, in every one of those races, each time one rider won, the other rider was runner-up.
Also, neither rider has had a DNF all season long. No crashes. No mechanical issues. No early retirements. Wyman and Herfoss have seen the checkered flag in all 16 races so far.
Now, don’t get me wrong here. Neither Wyman nor Herfoss has had a perfect season.
At Brainerd International Raceway, Wyman finished eighth in race two, and Herfoss finished just ahead of him in seventh.
Race one at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca was where things really diverted for Wyman and Herfoss. Wyman won race one, but Herfoss had his worst result of the season when he finished 11th. Then, in race two at Laguna, Wyman finished as runner-up while Herfoss finished fourth.
At COTA II in race one, it was Herfoss who finished as runner-up while Wyman finished fourth. Then, in race two at COTA II, Herfoss got the win while Wyman took the runner-up spot on the podium.
And that’s how it all comes down to the final round at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Wyman is in the lead by two points, and there are only two more races to crown the 2024 Mission King Of The Baggers.
“Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who is going to win the 2024 Mission King Of The Baggers Championship?” The picture will become crystal-clear on Sunday.
