Two-time MotoAmerica Supersport Champion Garrett Gerloff made a good impression in his first World Superbike test, the Texan ending the second day of testing with the sixth best time at the MotorLand Aragon circuit in Spain. Gerloff also had his first crash since joining the GRT Yamaha team, the tip-over taking place late in the final session.
Gerloff improved his lap times by .7 of a second from the first day of the two-day test and ended up with a best of 1:51.133 – just 1.2 off the best lap turned in by Aruba.it Racing Ducati’s Scott Redding.
“It’s a big change, it’s a lot different,” Gerloff said after day one of the test. “Maybe more different than some people think. It’s been really good today. They Yamaha R1 had some really good pace and it’s a fast bike and I feel pretty comfortable on it. There are only a few things that are different as far as ergonomics go, but electronics and suspension and all that are all pretty familiar. Just getting used to the Pirelli tires was something that’s different for sure. Just working through the little details and going to try to keep moving forward and moving up the ladder.”
Gerloff will test again in two weeks in Jerez, Spain.
