It was a banner year for the MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Championship in 2024, and not just because MotoAmerica celebrated its 10th season. A total of 50 new lap records were set across 8 race classes, 11 total rounds, and at 10 different racetracks around the U.S.
The 50 new lap records were set by 15 different riders, and the rider who set the most new track records in 2024 was a rookie: an extremely talented, highly experienced “rookie” by the name of Troy Herfoss who joined the MotoAmerica series at Daytona International Speedway on a bike, in a race class, and at racetracks that were all-new for the three-time Australian Superbike Champion. Herfoss set a total of 8 new lap records aboard his S&S/Indian Motorcycle Challenger on his way to winning the 2024 Mission King Of The Baggers Championship.
Herfoss’ closest rival in 2024 was Kyle Wyman, who finished as runner-up to Herfoss in a season-long battle in which Wyman missed out on his second Mission King Of The Baggers title by just 11 points. The New Yorker set 6 new lap records aboard his Harley-Davidson Factory Racing Road Glide during 2024.
Herfoss wasn’t the only rookie to have a banner year in MotoAmerica this past season. Fifteen-year-old Alessandro Di Mario, in his first season of racing in the 2024 BellissiMoto Twins Cup Championship, also set 6 new track records while winning the two-banger class championship aboard his Rodio Racing – Powered by Robem Engineering Aprilia RS 660.
Defending Stock 1000 Champion Hayden Gillim set 5 new track records on the way to notching his second consecutive literbike title, and it was his very first year aboard the Real Steel Motorsports Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP.
And speaking of defending class champions setting 5 new track records, Mikayla Moore also achieved that lap-record total as she captured her second Royal Enfield Build. Train. Race. Championship, with many of her record-setting laps eclipsing the lap records she broke in 2023. That’s right, the older she gets, the faster she is.
