It’s no wonder “E-z” are the first two letters of Eziah Davis’s name because he is one of most versatile people in the MotoAmerica paddock. Equally at home with a wrench or fuel dump can in his hands as he is gripping the handlebars in the saddle of a fast racebike, Davis will don a helmet this weekend as he joins TBEXUSA for a wild-card ride at Barber Motorsports Park.
According to team principal Mike Petrosini, Davis will be aboard the number 669 TBEXUSA Yamaha YZF-R1, which has been made race ready for Barber thanks to the generous support of Alpha Omega.
And what makes the entire race weekend even more special for Petrosini and Davis is the cause they represent and that they hope to gain more exposure for at Barber: getting disabled motorcycle riders back on two wheels.
“TBEX” is an acronym for “The Bike Experience,” which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that teaches and advises motorcyclists who have been disabled how they can ride again through the provision of an adapted and modified motorcycle that enables them to ride in a safe environment using a logical, step-by-step learning process.
As an instructor at the Yamaha Champions Riding School (YCRS), Davis has worked with TBEXUSA adaptive road racer Mark Lapansie, who has a T7 spinal cord injury. TBEXUSA team members Cora Leonhardt, whose Instagram profile says she is the first first female paralyzed motorcycle racer in the U.S., and fellow adaptive road racer Joe Pomeroy will be embedded with the team at Barber and available to answer questions regarding all facets of getting back on a bike after suffering a disability. In addition, the team will have two adapted motorcycles on hand for people to check out: one will be at the team’s paddock area and the other will be in the Fan Zone.
