American Racing’s Cameron Beaubier and Italtrans Racing’s Joe Roberts will start Sunday’s Moto2 Grand Prix of Japan from the third and fifth rows, respectively, after qualifying in a driving rainstorm at the Motegi circuit.
Both riders made it through to Q2 with Beaubier ending up eighth fastest with his 2:06.680 while Roberts was 14th with a 2:07.764. Beaubier’s teammate Sean Dylan Kelly, meanwhile, ended up 25th with his best time coming in Q1.
Flexbox HP40’s Aaron Canet will start the Grand Prix from pole position after his lap of 2:04.939 in Q2. Canet is looking for his first Moto2 victory after finishing second six times in 2022.
Beata Tools Speed Up’s Fermin Aldeguer ended up second fastest, .333 of a second behind, with Shimoko GASGAS Aspar Team’s Jake Dixon rounding out the front row with his 2:05.669.
