Jones Honda Racing announces that third-generation and well-known MotoAmerica road racer Ashton Yates has rejoined the team and will contest both the MotoAmerica Stock 1000 Championship and Superbike Cup aboard a Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP with support provided by American Honda. The announcement was made by Darrell Jones, owner of Jones Honda.
Yates raced in MotoAmerica’s Steel Commander Superbike Championship for the past two years with Scheibe Racing, and he will now return to his Honda literbike roots. The 25-year-old Georgia-based rider previously raced a Jones Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP in MotoAmerica’s Stock 1000 class in 2019, 2020, and 2021.
“It’s great to be reunited with the Jones Honda crew this season,” Yates said. “After two years of experience in the premier class, I’m excited to see what I’m capable of in Stock 1000, as well as Superbike Cup. I’m looking forward to being back aboard the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP and also working alongside Cameron and Darrell Jones. We had a great year in 2021 on the new-model Fireblade with multiple Stock 1000 podiums and some impressive Superbike race finishes, so I’m hoping we can pick up where we left off. We are also stoked to have backing from American Honda this season to support our endeavors in putting the Fireblade up front where it belongs. A big thank you goes out to Darrell Jones at Jones Honda, and also my sponsors, for this opportunity. I can’t wait to get this year underway and have some fun.”
Darrell Jones and the Jones family have been involved with all aspects of motorcycle racing for the past 40 years, which has given them countless opportunities to meet and work with many great race families. Jones Honda Powerhouse, located in Columbia, Missouri, is run by Darrell’s son Austin and Austin’s wife Megan. In addition, Darrell’s son Cameron and Cameron’s wife Callie have their own racing business called CJR Performance, which is located in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
“We are excited to be working with the Yates family again,” Darrell Jones said. “We met them back when Ashton and my son Cameron both raced in MotoAmerica’s Junior Cup Championship. That led to us sponsoring Ashton on the Honda in MotoAmerica Stock 1000 and Superbike Cup from 2019 to 2021. Now, in 2024, we are looking forward to showing what these Hondas can do while we also have a lot of fun.”
Ashton Yates and Jones Honda Racing are supported by American Honda, Pro Honda Oils & Chemicals, CJR Performance, HJC Helmets, Spidi, GP Tech, Yates Racing, SBS Brake Pads, and Sunstar Sprockets & Chains. Special thanks also to John Blike.
Yates and the team will be in action next weekend, April 19 through 21, at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, which is Yates’s home track.
