MotoAmerica, North America’s premier motorcycle road racing series, is pleased to host the fourth annual Pit Stop Challenge at Daytona International Speedway on Friday, March 7, the day prior to the 83rd running of the Daytona 200.
With fans able to get within just a few yards of the action in Victory Lane, pit crews from the five fastest qualifiers for Saturday’s Daytona 200 will go head-to-head in the team-vs.-team Pit Stop Challenge with the winning squad walking away with the lion’s share of the $13,000 purse.
“There’s nothing like a bit of competition between teams in an environment where fans can watch all of it unfold,” said MotoAmerica COO Chuck Aksland. “Getting your pit stops perfected during the Daytona 200 can make the difference between winning and losing, and the pressure is high. This gives the teams the chance to do it under a different kind of pressure with their rivals and fans watching their every move. This is our fourth year hosting the Pit Stop Challenge, and it’s proven to be popular with our fans and the teams.”
The Pit Stop Challenge gives fans the ultimate opportunity to get a close-up look at what goes into a winning pit stop in the Daytona 200. Teams will change both wheels, simulate filling the motorcycle with gas and then push their motorcycles across the timing strip for the fastest time. A mistake can be costly with teams facing disqualification if an axle nut isn’t tightened.
The winning team will take home $7000 with second place paying $3500 and third earning $2500. In addition to the cash, the winning team will also get $1000 worth of VP Racing Fuel and $1000 worth of Cardo’s new Edge DUO and two Edgephones. MotoAmerica would like to thank the following sponsors for their support of the fourth annual Pit Stop Challenge: Cardo, Accossato Racing, Coatzy Moto, DID Chains, Dunlop Tires, E3 Spark Plugs, Flex Racing, Kabuto Helmets, Mission Foods, Motion Pro, Pirelli Tires, REV’IT!, Walker Products, and VP Racing Fuels.
