On day three of the 2024 City of Jerez FIM Intercontinental Games at Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto, riders from the six FIM Continental Unions participated in provisional and final qualifying sessions to set the grid for Sunday’s final two races in each of the two classes: Supersport 300 and Supersport.
Among the eight U.S. riders competing for the North America Continental Union, Max Toth was the fastest American qualifier in Supersport 300, while Blake Davis was the fastest American qualifier in Supersport.
Toth’s fastest lap on his Yamaha YZF-R3 put him 11th on the SSP300 starting grid and just 1.570 seconds off the polesitter’s fastest lap. In Supersport, Davis recorded the 10-fastest time aboard his Yamaha YZF-R7, which was only 1.599 seconds off the fastest time in the class.
The American team tried a few different strategies to help them get in some clean laps, including racing together in groups of two or three riders and also waiting to go out on track until after some of the riders from the other Continental Unions pitted.
“It’s been an incredible experience so far in Jerez,” commented North America Continental Union Supersport team captain Hayden Schultz, who qualified 14th for Sunday’s races. “The track and style are so different, so it has been a lot to learn. The position isn’t where I’d like but we’ve made progress and should have good pace in the race to mix it up. We’re excited to see what we can do once the lights go out.”
