MotoAmerica Mission King Of The Baggers Champion Troy Herfoss competed in the final round of the Australian Superbike Championship at The Bend in South Australia and while it didn’t go the way he wanted it to go in the first and second of the three races, it certainly went his way in the finale with the defending Australian Superbike Champion taking victory.
Herfoss had bike issues with his DesmoSport Ducati in the first race but turned that around to finish third in race two. In race three he became the sixth different rider to win a Superbike race in the 2024 Australian Championship.
History was made in the final round when McMartin Racing Ducati’s Josh Waters became the first rider in to win four Australian Superbike titles (2009, 2012, 2017 and 2024). Waters went into the final race of the year 25 points ahead of Yamaha Racing Team’s Mike Jones, but Jones crashed on the opening lap and all suspense was gone. Waters rode to second place in race three behind Herfoss to easily claim the championship.
