For three MotoAmerica seasons, the Mission Mini Cup by Motul Championship was literally run alongside the MotoAmerica Championship. On select MotoAmerica race weekends and at select MotoAmerica racetracks (namely Road America, Ridge Motorsports Park, Pittsburgh International Race Complex, New Jersey Motorsports Park, and Barber Motorsports Park), the Mini Cup Championship was held at the tracks’ karting facilities, or in the case of Barber Motorsports Park, on an improvised mini road racing track near the main race track.
By all accounts, it was a very successful championship. But, something was missing. Obviously, the United States is a big country, and Mini Cup was concentrated mostly in the East, save for the round in Shelton, Washington, at Ridge Motorsports Park.
To solve that conundrum, for 2024, the Mini Cup Championship mimicked the long-established paradigm developed in amateur youth motocross: regional championships that earn riders entry into a national final to crown the champions.
MotoAmerica got together with various regional mini road racing organizations around the country and organized a network of regional qualifying rounds in which riders from those regions earn points that they can then apply to the Mission Mini Cup by Motul Championship National Final at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, August 10-11.
