Wrench Motorcycles’ Bobby Fong has been fast all weekend, and he sealed the deal on Saturday morning by earning pole position in the MotoAmerica Steel Commander Superbike class by virtue of his 1:30.537 at Brainerd International Raceway.
“It was a good lap,” Fong said after his third career Superbike pole position. “We’re P1 but we have two races to go so we’re just going to keep our head on straight, be smart and make moves like we always do. I’m ready for a battle at the end. This thing is always pretty good at the end of the races so we just have to play it cool in the beginning and make our moves at the end.”
It was close at the top with the top six all within a half second in the 30-minute Q2 with Warhorse HSBK Ducati Racing’s Loris Baz just .064 of a second off Fong’s best with his 1:30.601. Both riders did their best laps on their 13th go-arounds.
Three-time MotoAmerica Superbike Champion Jake Gagne will start from the outside of row one with the Attack Performance/Progressive/Yamaha Racing-backed Gagne only .085 of a second from pole.
EasyHealthPlans.com/TopPro Racing’s Sean Dylan Kelly will lead row two, just .110 of a second off Fong’s best. He will be joined on the second row by Gagne’s teammate Cameron Petersen, and Baz’s teammate Josh Herrin.
Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Brandon Paasch and the two Tytlers Cycle Racing teammates JD Beach and class rookie Troy Herfoss were next with Thrashed Bike Racing’s Max Flinders rounding out the top 10.
