Ron Heben is the walking definition of “been there, done that.” One of the most experienced and versatile people in the MotoAmerica paddock, Heben has worked in the race departments for Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, KTM, Kawasaki, and other OEMs, and he is equally at home around off-road bikes as he is with road race motorcycles. A mechanic, marketing professional, master of ceremonies, storyteller, and more, Heben is one person in the MotoAmerica paddock who everyone needs to get to know.

What was your introduction to the motorcycle world?

I grew up in Western Pennsylvania where my friends and I all started out on mini-bikes, then we moved up to dirt bikes, and eventually, we raced motocross. Some of us stuck with it, and I was one of them. It eventually led to me moving out to California to train and work with some big names in the sport, starting with Marty Tripes.

What led to you working in the MotoAmerica paddock?

I’ve worked in the motorcycle industry my whole life, and I ultimately retired from working in Yamaha’s racing department. I’ve got a lot of experience in many different areas, and I could see where I could help MotoAmerica. That led to me getting hired to handle their hospitality, and now also, their VIP efforts.

What part of the job do you enjoy the most?

The motorcycle paddock is my home. I enjoy working with so many talented people and all the camaraderie that goes along with it. It’s very satisfying when people get together to do a job and do it well. I enjoy being part of that.

What part of the job is the most difficult?

Sunday night after the race weekend concludes when we have to tear down the “circus”, pack everything away, and get it all on the trucks for transport to the next track on the schedule. It’s always a tough task, especially if it rains. Rolling up wet awnings and tarps is no fun.

What do you like to do when you’re not at the racetrack?

I enjoy being with my family and friends. I keep pretty active playing golf and pickleball. I also used to play a lot of racquetball, but pickleball has replaced that as my go-to way to stay in shape.
