MotoAmericans Joe Roberts and Cameron Beaubier started their Monster Energy British Grand Prix weekends with the eighth and 23rd best Moto2 times, respectively, on opening day at the Silverstone Circuit on Friday.
Italtrans Racing’s Roberts did his best lap in FP2 on Friday afternoon, the Californian posting the eighth best lap with his 2:05.317 on the 3.6-mile Silverstone Circuit. Roberts improved .449 of a second from his best in FP1.
Beaubier, meanwhile, improved by .832 of a second from FP1 to FP2 in his first outing at Silverstone. The American Racing Kalex-mounted Beaubier lapped at a best of 2:06.487 in FP2 to end up 23rd on the day.
Friday’s sessions were led by Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Raul Fernandez with the Spaniard just a few tenths off the lap record with his 2:04.501 in FP2. Lightech Speed Up’s Jorge Navarro was second, just .017 of a second behind Fernandez with Brit Sam Lowes riding the Elf Marc VDS Kalex to the third best time on Friday.
