GRT Yamaha’s Garrett Gerloff earned his second World Superbike podium of the year today in Estoril, the former MotoAmerica Supersport Champion fighting off the advances of now six-time World Champion Jonathan Rea to finish third in the first of three races in Portugal.
“For sure I was trying to be on my tiptoes around him (Rea) and I didn’t want to cause any problems or anything like that,” Gerloff said from parc ferme. “I am honestly a little frustrated with myself because in the beginning of the race I was making stupid mistakes and riding like an idiot. I’m not normally like that, I’m normally more consistent, so I definitely need to work on that for tomorrow. I’m really happy to be on the podium again. It’s been a really cool last few races, but it’s not as sweet as the last time (his first podium). I’m going to have to move up some places to make it even sweeter.”
Today’s race was won by PATA Yamaha’s Toprak Razgatlıoğlu with Ducati’s Chaz Davies finishing second.
