With PJ Jacobsen still feeling the effects of the burn injuries he sustained during morning warmup at Road America 2, the Celtic HSBK Racing team has replaced the New Yorker for the PittRace round this weekend with Jake Lewis.
Lewis, who raced for the M4 ECSTAR Suzuki team last year, rode a Scheibe Racing BMW in the season opener at Road America after not having a ride for the 2020 MotoAmerica season. He finished ninth in race one but had a mechanical DNF in race two. PittRace will mark Lewis’ first time to ride a Ducati of any kind when he throws his leg over the team’s Panigale V4 R.
Unlike Jacobsen, who was doing double duty with the HONOS Superbike class and Stock 1000, Lewis will only compete in the Superbike class.
According to Celtic HSBK Racing’s Bobby Shek, the bike Lewis is riding is Jacobsen’s Stock 1000 machine, but they are able to remove the ballast that was added to balance the bike for Stock 1000 competition. No ballast is required on the bike when it is raced in the Superbike class.
“I’m excited to race a Ducati for the first time and it’s also cool that it’s at PittRace because I like the track and I did well here last year,” Lewis said.
Lewis crashed in race one with Josh Herrin last year, but bounced back to finish fourth in race two, which was his best result of the 2019 season.
