EBC Brakes Superbike rider Sam Verderico is the perfect ambassador for the Pacific Northwest. The FLY Racing Yamaha rider is a free spirit who is always ready for any adventure. Already the owner of three speedboats, including an outrageous hydroplane that goes from zero to 150 miles per hour in around three seconds, Verderico recently bought a $50 raffle ticket and won the grand prize, which was yet another speedboat to add to his incredible collection. Verderico is quick on the water, quick on the racetrack, and he was quick to answer “The Friday Five.” Here are his answers:
1. What’s your favorite thing to do in Wenatchee, Washington?
I like to go boating on the Columbia River and hang out on the beaches.
2. On a scale of 1 to 10, how excited are you that we are racing at The Ridge Motorsports Park next year?
Oh, it’s a 10 all the way. That’s my home track. I go there every weekend when I’m home to ride, help other riders, and just be at the track. I was the state champion at that track, too. I know that place well, and I’m excited to have MotoAmerica race there.
3. Since Wenatchee is the “Apple Capital of the World,” do you like apples, and what is your favorite kind?
I love apples. How can you not when you’re from Wenatchee? Rainiers are my favorite. They’re tart and sweet. Just perfect.
4. If there were one thing you wish you had on your FLY Racing Yamaha YZF-R1 Superbike, what would it be?
Honestly, a better rider. My Yamaha is a World Superbike. There’s nothing I need to improve on my bike. It’s me that needs to improve.
5. Do Sasquatches really exist?
No, I don’t believe they do. I ride mountain bikes all over the place in Oregon. I’ve seen a lot of bears and cougars, but no Sasquatches. Those are make-believe.
Bonus Question: What is your favorite letter of the alphabet?
My favorite letter of the alphabet? Oh, that’s easy. The letter “J,” but I prefer to spell it “J-a-y-e.” I think you know why Jaye’s my favorite.
(Editor’s note: Verderico’s girlfriend’s/umbrella girl’s name is “Jaye”)
