Three-time 500cc world champion talks road racing, injuries, and future of the sport.
Wayne Rainey’s Grand Prix motorcycle road-racing career ended abruptly with a devastating crash in Italy. But his love of the sport endures, leading the two-time AMA Superbike champion and three-time 500cc world champion to help create MotoAmerica, a new organization dedicated to the rejuvenation of motorcycle road racing in America.
MotoAmerica was launched nationally in 2015. The series is sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). It features five classes of road racing: Motul Superbike, Bazzaz Superstock 1000, Supersport, Superstock 600, and the spec KTM RC Cup.
For 2017, MotoAmerica has announced an expanded 10 round schedule with two new venues, Sonoma Raceway and Pittsburgh International Race Complex.
Dave Despain and Wayne talk motorcycle road racing, injuries, and the future—only on The Dave Despain Show—on Sunday, February 12, at 8:30 p.m. ET.
