Race Report Moto America Laguna Seca

Well, I’ve finally settled down after an eventful weekend of racing at the famous Laguna Seca. It was amazing as always and the facility was off the charts.
Friday practice was cold and foggy. I had some suspension issues early in practice, but none of us were too sure if that was caused from the cold track. I continued the session to get back into the groove of things and felt alright. Laguna has been a problem track to me so I was shaking off the cobwebs. Qualifying 1 came up super fast! We changed some settings on the bike and improved bit by bit but I was still way off where I wanted to be. I finished in P18 in Q1 and was really looking forward to improving on Sunday since we were not in track Saturday due to WSBK.
Q2 we made a great improvement and I dropped some time but I was still about 4 seconds off Pole time. I was frustrated but determined to be at the front during the race. I finished in P18 again in Q2, definitely not where I wanted to be.
Race time!! I got a great start from Row 7 and made up some good positions going into Turn 1. The track conditions were not the best. Very dusty and I was struggling with rear grip, as was majority of the field. The race was a major crash fest causing a red flag with 5 laps to go. We did a 5 lap restart starting in 10th from Row 4, a good improvement from before. Even after the restart, more people were going down. I noticed that and did everything I could to keep rubber side down. I had a good battle with Nic Swensgard in 10th but my grip out of the last corner was not there and I was unable to get the drive. I ended up 10th in the race and although I wanted to finish in a higher place, I was happy to have survived the carnage that took out so many other racers. I’m really looking forward to Utah and putting her on the Box!!! See y’all there.

Race Report
Moto America Road America

Last weekend was pretty tough, full of ups and downs. But with the help of everyone, we made it through!

Friday practice started off alright, though the bike was not feeling the best. Jim Cambora made some changes to the bike in Qualifying 1 and I was really happy but unfortunately I went down in Turn 5 causing my shift lever to break, leaving me stuck in 1st gear. I was told by the corner workers to ride through the pits because it would be dangerous to get back in track going tops 20 mph. As soon as I got back to hot pits I was informed my laps had been taken away for leaving the controlled area. I was very frustrated with MotoAmerica’s decision because it was a lose-lose either way. They refused to give back our laps because it’s “protocol” so I was determined to do better in Qualifying 2.
Well, Qualifying 2 went worse than Q1. My shift lever broke again. Twice. Giving me 0 laps for the whole weekend except for Practice. Since I was Top 10 in points, I could make a Provisional Start from 25th on the grid. Dead Last. I was very frustrated but also happy I could be out there to race still.
Race 1 was tough. I picked my way through the field and got put in a group farther back to battle with. The whole race was tough. The bike wasn’t feeling good, running wide, tire pressures not where they should be, front tucking, rear bucking, it made it very difficult to manage the bike. I put my head down and didn’t give up. I got a good drive onto the front straight and managed to use the draft to win the group I was in putting me 12th. I was hoping to improve the bike for a better finishing position in Race 2.
Overnight, my Dad and Jimmy made some major changes to my suspension. Morning Warm-Up felt really good and I was confident about Race 2. The improvements to the bike were very good and it felt much better than the day before.
I got a great start and ran up the inside of half the field into Turn 1. I put my head down and tried to get to the front pack but traffic on the first lap was too much and I was left in the 2nd group. The whole race was fun, although I would’ve liked if we all could have worked together to catch up to the front pack but not everything goes as planned. On the very last lap, a neon blur passes me on the front straight and I realize it’s my little brother! I tried to pass him going into Turn 3 but didn’t want to take the risk and crash us both. I was passed by the rest of the pack on the straight going to Turn 5 and I pass everyone back (Including Ryan) into Turn 5 and maintain the lead of the pack to the line. I finished 10th in Race 2 which met my goal of Top 10 in that race. The weekend started off rough but ended with great racing and the battling with my little brother was awesome!! Hoping for a better finish at Laguna Seca next round. See y’all there!

Race Report
CMRA Round 4
Hallett Motor Racing Circuit

Sorry for the late report, had a busy week finishing up school for the year!!!

Last weekend in Hallett, Oklahoma for the 4th CMRA round was a good time. With the changing weather conditions and tough competition it played out very well.
Friday practice went very good. The bike felt solid and so did I. We made a few small adjustments and it felt even better by the end of the day.
Saturday’s morning ULWGP Expert sprint was frustrating. I got a great start in from the second row of the second wave and was out in front by turn 4. After battling the whole race with a fellow Moto America racer, we came up onto a Prov Nov going into the Bus Stop on the last lap. I had to give up the lead in order not to take out the back marker and it slowed me enough where I couldn’t get back around and ended up with a P2, I was disappointed, but hey- that’s racing!!
I was really looking forward to the 6 Hour Ultra Lightweight Endurance! I started the race for Your Pace or Mine? and got a good start with fellow Junior Cup rider Jay Newton, and we broke away from the field. We both just rode together, having fun during our stints, neither one of us able to run away from each other. I finished the first hour and a half on the Graves Motorsports R3 with us in P1 and having set what would stand as the fastest lap of the race a 1:26:030. One of our teammates went down in Turn 3 around the 4th hour and that dropped us back to P8. I went back out to finish the race with an hour to go in P10 and was able to put down some solid laps, had a lot of fun and managed to pull us up to 4th overall and 2nd in the ULW class.
Overall it was a pretty good weekend and it’s always awesome to see my CMRA family again. Next up will be some more MotoAmerica LIQUI MOLY Junior Cup action at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin next weekend! See y’all there- or, if you’re not able to make the drive, be sure to tune in on the BeIn Sports YouTube channel for live coverage of both Saturdays and Sundays races!!
